While there’s an additional charge for a wine tasting, it’s a great chance to sample different wines and learn, all while on a cruise. Whether you want to dance, or hang out and take in a show, the live bands on cruises are fabulous. Make sure to go to the lounge or club early to get some seats.
Aboard a Royal Caribbean vessel, you’ll find a wide range of shopping options here, including souvenirs, fine jewelry, fashion, luxury watches, liquor, and beauty items. You've seen it before, sure, but watching the sunset over the ocean never fails to give you that, "I'm on vacation, and life is good" moment.

There’s likely no activity more popular on a cruise than working on your tan. On days at sea you’ll see seemingly everyone on the ship getting some sun. If you want to be in the middle of the action, then head to the pool area where you’ll find the most people. Enjoy an evening of elegance with formal nightsIf the elegance of cruising’s past makes you feel you were born too late, you’ll love this opportunity to wear your finest attire.
These are some of the most relaxing cruise ship activities by far. Whether it’s the Harlem Shuffle or the Cha Cha Slide, line dancing by the pool is just one of the fun things to do on a cruise. I love it, but if you don’t, you may enjoy some people watching instead. Cruises are amazing family vacations, and most cruise lines have kid’s clubs where your children can do activities and hang out with new friends.
Order Room Service
Note that you should always keep your phone in airplane mode when onboard to avoid pricey data roaming charges. Both a rite of passage for new cruisers and a favorite event for old salts, sailaway is what officially kicks off each voyage. You can choose to free jump, or there are also virtual reality headsets that allow you to play games as you jump (such as blocking virtual soccer balls).
However, more importantly, through our years of cruising, we’ve discovered that on a cruise there truly is something for everyone. Finally, when cruising with Disney, don't miss the AquaDuck water coaster tube ride or the AquaDunk waterslide found on select ships. Get social and active with onboard parades that pump up the energy. Royal Caribbean is known for its shindigs in the Royal Promenade on its largest ships, accompanied by acrobats, balloons and other surprises that will leave you feeling festive. Meanwhile, Carnival's Seuss at Sea program encompasses, among other things, a Seuss-a-Palooza parade, complete with character appearances.
Better to sign up on day one, even if you're not sure your kids will want to go; there's no requirement to attend. DON'T head straight to the buffet -- it's one of the most crowded places onboard on embarkation day because everyone comes hungry for lunch. Many buffets are now served, which can also lead to back-ups.
(Yes, I said "thang.") Poolside line dancing is a favorite pastime of cruisers, generally in the evenings. If what you're really looking to do is learn how to dance, some ships include lessons in their daily programming. We've seen everything from waltz to tango and even salsa represented. Ships have spots dedicated to the game, often with multiple tables in a place outside, but with minimal wind so that you can play even when it’s breezy.
Many voyages schedule nights themed around disco, the 80s or even toga parties. There's nothing wrong with sleeping in, ordering room service and enjoying a movie on your cabin's TV. Or, if you're staying in a room with a balcony, take in some sea breezes on your own little slice of outdoor space, perhaps with a drink and a good book. But, if you're more into DIY options, take advantage of Azamara Cruises' Nights in Private Places on a clear night, where you and your partner can fall asleep under the stars.
It’s also a good idea to do your research your ships before you book your cruise, to see what cruise ship activities are offered. You can plan what to do on sea days by looking at your cruise planner, often available in paper form or on a cruise line app. You’ll see the various cruise activities, as well as opening and closing hours. When we think of cruise activities, many of us think of waterslides and belly flop contests. However, many cruise ships have more cerebral activities available.
